This was The Dragon's 3rd fight of his career for Inoki Bom-Ba-Ye in 2003. This was Rich Franklin's 14th and at the time, he was undefeated. Franklin did state before that he took this fight last minute and did not have a chance to really study any video of Machida but from the look of it, I doubt it would have made a difference. This was the fight where Machida put himself on the map.
